"The sewing class helped build up my confidence in sewing and to find a better job or to be a creative and start my own business. Now I feel artistic, I can make all kind of dresses, cushions, and curtains. However; I’ve not just improved my home with these; I have improved my life and self-esteem".

" I managed to become independent and I have improved my sewing technique and became a more accomplished dressmaker and Fashion Designer. I had the opportunity to socialise with more females which really improved my confidence. The staff are helpful".

In 2016, Zahra (our programme coordinator and founder) received the Southwark Civic Award that recognised her hard work and outstanding dedication to the community for over 15 years.

" Zahra established Everywoman's Centre in 2001 to empower all women living in Southwark and in the surrounding areas. From the beginning, the centre achieved its objectives by providing its members with the skills needed to support them into employment and to promote their personal health and wellbeing. At the time of its foundation, Zahra was a recent arrival from war torn Somalia. She saw the opportunity to help herself and other women in equally challenging life situations to improve their prospects. The charity continues to increase the confidence and employability of every woman to walk through its doors. Zahra is a positive role model for other refugees and asylum seekers, and indeed for women from all walks of life."
